As decarbonization is also an issue in the dairy sector, two major food companies have launched a project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by feeding cows with newly developed feed.

The new projects are started by the food giants Meiji and Ajinomoto companies.

In the field of dairy farming, greenhouse gases such as methane are emitted from cow burps and excrement, which is an issue for realizing a decarbonized society.

Under these circumstances, Ajinomoto has developed its own products using amino acids that can reduce greenhouse gases emitted from cow excrement, and Meiji Group companies provide farmers with feed mixed with this product.

Then, we will utilize the emissions trading system to purchase the emissions that Meiji has been able to save.

The purchase price is paid to the farmer, which means that greenhouse gases can be reduced while reducing the new cost burden.

The two companies will first start this initiative with farmers in Hokkaido and hope to increase the number of participating farmers in the future.

At the press conference, Meiji President Katsuya Matsuda said, "We would like to work on decarbonization so that milk that is commonplace on the table can continue to be used in the future."
