Due to the poor harvest of aquaculture nori in the Ariake Sea, Shirako, a major glue processing and sales company, has decided to raise the prices of its home nori products by up to 6% from June.

According to the people involved, the price of "Shirako" will be increased from June 6 shipments for almost all glue products for home use.

The range of price increases is from 1% to a maximum of 15% at the suggested retail price, of which about 40% will be raised for "yaki-nori" and about 40% to 30% for "seasoned nori".

This is the first time the company has raised the price of glue products since 35, four years ago, and the first time it has seen a significant increase of 4%.

The company says that the reason is that in the Ariake Sea, which is known as one of the leading aquaculture nori producing areas in Japan, there was a record crop failure this season, and the purchase price rose significantly.

In particular, the production volume of aquaculture nori in Saga Prefecture this season was almost halved from the same period of the previous year until the end of last month, and the transaction price per glue at the tender meeting was 1% higher.

In addition to the cost of cardboard for transporting glue, rising logistics costs also led to the decision to raise prices.

If major companies in the industry decide to raise prices this time, it is likely that other companies will be able to raise prices in the future.
