In 2022, the national shipbuilding completions, new orders, and pending orders will be 37.86 million deadweight tons, 45.52 million deadweight tons, and 105.57 million deadweight tons, accounting for 47.3%, 55.2%, and 49% of the world's total respectively. The international market share of indicators remains the first in the world.

The shipbuilding industry is an important cornerstone of a maritime power.

At present, the international market share of my country's shipbuilding industry has ranked first in the world for 13 consecutive years, with excellent technology, outstanding strength, strong development momentum, and vigorous vitality.

The ship has a length of 399.99 meters, a molded width of 61.3 meters, a load capacity of 228,000 tons, and a deck area equivalent to 3.5 standard football fields. When fully loaded, it can reach the height of a 22-story ordinary residence... A few days ago, it was built by Nantong COSCO Shipping Kawasaki Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. The 24,188 TEU container ship trial voyage, my country's ultra-large container ship welcomes a new breakthrough.

With frequent news of ship delivery, continuous follow-up orders, and steady progress in industrial upgrading, in recent years, my country's shipbuilding industry has continued to consolidate the competitiveness of the entire industry chain and continuously improve its position in the international market.

The "2022 Shipbuilding Industry Economic Operation Analysis" recently released by the China Shipbuilding Industry Association shows that by 2022, my country's shipbuilding industry's international market share has ranked first in the world for 13 consecutive years.

Outstanding strength, leading the international market

"Last year, we set a record for the largest single LNG (liquefied natural gas) carrier order in the history of Chinese shipbuilding. At present, we have accumulated orders for nearly 50 ships, and the production task has been scheduled until 2028." Deputy secretary Liu Ying told reporters happily.

Since the construction and delivery of the first domestic large-scale LNG carrier "Dapeng Hao" in 2008, Hudong-Zhonghua's technology in building this type of ship has continued to improve.

"From following to paralleling to leading, the construction process has been updated to the fifth generation, and its efficiency is comparable to that of international advanced shipbuilding companies," Liu Ying said.

Only with strong technology and outstanding strength can we win the favor of the market.

In 2022, to seize the opportunity of rising demand in the global large LNG carrier market, Chinese shipping companies will take active actions and take the initiative to attack.

In China Shipbuilding Group, in addition to Hudong Zhonghua, which is "leading the way", Jiangnan Shipbuilding and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry also successfully completed the first order of LNG ships last year. The group has signed a total of 49 large-scale LNG carrier orders in 2022, with a contract value of more than 10 billion US dollars. The total global market share jumped from less than 7% in 2021 to nearly 30% in 2022.

Not only in the LNG ship market, in 2022, the vast number of shipbuilding enterprises in my country will seize the opportunity, take active actions, and hand over a brilliant report card——

The international market share continues to lead.

In 2022, the national shipbuilding completions, new orders, and hand-held orders will be 37.86 million deadweight tons, 45.52 million deadweight tons, and 105.57 million deadweight tons, respectively, accounting for 47.3%, 55.2% and 49% of the world's total, compared with 2021. Annual growth of 0.1, 1.4 and 1.4 percentage points respectively.

The export value of ships kept increasing.

From January to November 2022, my country's ship export value was 23.85 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 7.9%.

Among the exported ship products, bulk carriers, oil tankers and container ships still dominate, with a total export value of 12.38 billion US dollars, accounting for 51.9% of the total export value.

The main business income and profits of shipbuilding companies have grown.

By strengthening the plan management of large shipbuilding nodes, implementing intelligent transformation of production lines, and strengthening cost management, shipbuilding companies have vigorously promoted cost reduction and efficiency increase.

From January to November 2022, there were 1,093 shipbuilding enterprises above designated size across the country, realizing a main business income of 457.29 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8%, and a total profit of 13.65 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 70%.

The quality of new ship orders continued to improve.

In 2022, my country's shipping companies will consolidate their leading position in the dominant ship type market and lay a solid foundation for new ship orders.

Among the 18 major types of ships in the world, my country ranks first in the world in new orders for 12 types of ships.

Among them, new orders for bulk carriers, container ships, car carriers and crude oil tankers accounted for 74.3%, 56.8%, 88.7% and 66.1% of the global total respectively.

"In 2022, China's shipbuilding capacity utilization monitoring index will be 764 points, an increase of 22 points compared with 2021, reaching the highest point in the past 10 years." Li Yanqing, secretary general of the China Shipbuilding Industry Association, said.

Driven by innovation, the future is promising

Put on 3D glasses, that is, immersive.

In the digital exhibition hall of China Shipbuilding Corporation Jiangnan Shipbuilding Company, the reporter "walked into" a highly simulated "digital ship" and had a panoramic view of the situation inside the cabin.

"With the help of the 'integration of virtual reality' experience, the designer can conduct a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the performance and craftsmanship of the entire ship. Whether the placement of each component is appropriate, whether it is convenient for later maintenance, and whether the temperature, sound, light, airflow, etc. of each cabin are comfortable It is pleasant and can be checked in advance at the design stage.” said Lin Qingshan, deputy general manager of Jiangnan Shipbuilding.

In recent years, with the deepening of digital transformation, the design cycle of Jiangnan Shipbuilding has been significantly shortened, and the construction efficiency has been greatly improved.

According to Lin Qingshan, it took an average of 28 months to build a 20,000-TEU large container ship in the past, but now it only takes 16 months.

Since last year, shipbuilding companies have firmly grasped the "bull nose" of innovation, and promoted the industrial level to a new level——

  High-end equipment made new breakthroughs.

In 2022, high-end ship types such as 24,000 TEU container ships and 174,000 cubic meters of large LNG ships will be delivered in batches; marine engineering equipment such as 100,000-ton smart fishery large-scale breeding work ships and fourth-generation jack-up wind power installation ships will be realized deliver.

Green power ships are growing rapidly.

Last year, the proportion of green power ships among the new orders received by Chinese shipbuilding enterprises reached 49.1%, reaching the highest level in history.

The application of domestic supporting products is accelerated.

Li Yanqing gave a detailed introduction to the reporter: "On the one hand, the shipment rate of domestically-made marine main engines, marine boilers, marine cranes, marine gas supply systems and other ancillary equipment continues to increase. On the other hand, the research and development capabilities of high-end marine steel continue to increase. All crack arresting plates have been replaced domestically, and the localization rate of duplex stainless steel for chemical ships has increased from less than 50% to more than 90%.”

Demand is high, orders are sufficient, and production is busy. Right now, many shipbuilding companies are working hard to build.

Jiangnan Shipbuilding launched a new construction model of "double docks and double lines" in February this year.

On the basis of limited berth resources, adding new product lines and coordinating the node cycle of multi-type ships will effectively improve the pace of ship construction.

This year, Jiangnan Shipbuilding plans to complete the undocking of 20 ships in six batches, doubling the number of undocked ships compared with last year.

Hudong Zhonghua is vigorously promoting the plan to double the production capacity of LNG ships.

At present, the docks, workshops and supporting facilities of the second phase of the Changxing Shipbuilding Base have taken shape, and it is planned to be completed and put into production successively this year and next.

Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding will usher in the first year of complete delivery of the three types of products of cruise ships, civilian ships and offshore engineering this year.

"It is estimated that 23 ships will be delivered throughout the year, and the output value will increase by 40% year-on-year." Said Chen Gang, general manager of Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.

Make up for shortcomings and accelerate industrial upgrading

Just after the Spring Festival, the Waigaoqiao Shipyard of China State Shipbuilding Corporation located in Pudong, Shanghai was very busy, and the dock was full of large ships under construction.

Among them, the most eye-catching is undoubtedly the first domestic cruise ship with a total length of 323.6 meters and a height of about 24 floors.

Large cruise ships are the only high value-added ship types that have not yet been conquered in my country.

Since the start of construction and ignition of the first large-scale cruise ship in October 2019, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has successively overcome key design technologies such as cruise ship weight control and safe return to port through introduction, digestion and independent innovation.

Various pipelines are being laid one after another, equipment systems are being intensively debugged, and interior decoration is speeding up. Right now, the first domestic cruise ship is being intensively stepped up for construction.

As of mid-February this year, the progress of the project has reached 87%. The entire ship is expected to be undocked in the middle of this year and named and delivered by the end of the year.

"In the next few years, my country's shipping companies will usher in the peak period of delivery. From 2023 to 2024 is the period for the concentrated delivery of large container ships. According to the plan, 44 large container ships of 15,000 TEUs and above will be delivered. From 2025 to 2026 2020 is the period for concentrated delivery of large LNG ships, and many companies are building large LNG ships for the first time." Li Yanqing suggested that ship companies comprehensively strengthen production planning and material supporting management, insist on quality first and safety first, and ensure that ships with orders are delivered on schedule.

For the next step of the shipping industry, industry experts also put forward some suggestions.

On the one hand, it is necessary to improve quality and efficiency, grasp the rhythm, and improve the quality of orders.

"In the past two years, the global new shipbuilding market has remained active, and the market demand for different ship types has shown a rotating development. The prices of new ships such as large container ships, car carriers, and large LNG ships have increased significantly. Within a year, the price difference between ships of the same type is as high as Tens of millions of dollars." Li Yanqing said.

In view of the current situation, Li Yanqing suggested that shipbuilding companies should strengthen the tracking of the development of the international shipping and shipbuilding market, avoid blindly following the trend, combine their own ship orders and ship position arrangements, and optimize their business strategies on the premise of ensuring the continuity of production. Single rhythm, further improving the quality of new orders.

On the other hand, it is necessary to explore and innovate to resolve the contradiction of insufficient human resources.

"At present, the contradiction between the rapid growth of production of my country's shipbuilding enterprises and the shortage of labor supply has become increasingly prominent, which has become an important factor restricting the high-quality development of the industry." Li Yanqing suggested that relevant government departments increase policy support for the recruitment of shipbuilding enterprise employees and professional job training. In addition, shipbuilding companies should also explore reforms in employment models, maintain a stable workforce and improve technical levels through measures such as improving workers' treatment and improving the working environment.

"In addition, based on the existing foundation and conditions, smart manufacturing can be steadily promoted, production efficiency can be improved, and the problem of labor shortage can be alleviated." Li Yanqing said.

"In 2023, the downward pressure on the world economy will continue to increase, and the global shipping and new shipbuilding markets will experience reasonable fluctuations, but the demand for new ships will not shrink sharply, and ship companies will maintain sufficient orders." Li Yanqing believes that the current scale of my country's shipbuilding industry continues to grow. We will grow stronger and our international status will be steadily improved. "We must strengthen our confidence, continue to work hard, strengthen scientific and technological innovation, and solidly promote the construction of a strong shipbuilding country." (People's Daily)
