First visit by an Egyptian foreign minister to Damascus in more than ten years.
The head of Egyptian diplomacy arrived in Syria on Monday February 27.
Sameh Choukri wanted to show his country's solidarity with Syria after the deadly earthquakes of February 6th.
Earthquakes that allow the Assad regime to gradually reduce its diplomatic isolation.

In recent years, several countries have begun their rapprochement with Damascus, but the earthquake that killed thousands in Syria in early February acts as an accelerator of the process.

On February 15, it was the Jordanian Foreign Minister who was welcomed in Damascus.
More spectacular still, the visit of Bashar el-Assad in person last week to the sultanate of Oman, one of the monarchies of the Gulf, his second visit to an Arab country since 2011 since the Syrian president was received in the United Arab Emirates Last year.
The Emirates at the forefront of breaking Damascus' diplomatic isolation since reopening an embassy in Syria in 2018.
Bashar al-Assad less and less infrequent, therefore.
He recently hailed the “ positive
” attitude
of the Arab countries which are providing aid to Syria and resuming dialogue.
But for now, Damascus remains on the doorstep of the Arab League.
Syria was suspended from the organization in 2011 amid a crackdown on a popular uprising against the regime.
