Geely Automobile once again made efforts to transform into new energy vehicles.

On the evening of February 23, Geely Automobile released the mid-to-high-end new energy brand "Geely Galaxy", and said that it will launch two product lines of electric hybrid and pure electric.

Among them, the electric hybrid architecture covers intelligent electric hybrid products from grade A0 to grade B; the pure electric architecture covers intelligent pure electric products from grade A to grade E.

Unlike ordinary car conferences where only one new car or even a concept car is unveiled, Geely Yinhe has announced seven new products that will be launched before 2025, including three that will be launched this year, three that will be launched next year, and one that will be launched in 2025. , the earliest L7 model will be delivered in the second quarter of this year.

In this regard, many industry insiders believe that under the strong attack of self-owned brand new energy vehicles such as BYD and Changan, Geely is gradually losing its first-mover advantage in self-owned brands, and its overall sales are also beginning to come under pressure.

In the era of fuel vehicles, Geely Automobile can be said to be the leader of China's independent brands, and has repeatedly won the number one position in sales of independent brands.

However, with the rapid rise of BYD relying on new energy vehicles, the position of the self-owned brand sales champion no longer belongs to Geely Automobile.

According to data from the Passenger Association, Geely Automobile will rank fifth in the manufacturer's retail sales rankings in 2022, behind BYD, Changan and North-South Volkswagen.

In terms of year-on-year growth, Geely's growth rate is not ideal, at 1.8%, while BYD's is 149.4%, and Chang'an's is 13.8%.

From the perspective of the new energy vehicle market, Geely Automobile ranked fourth last year, behind BYD, SAIC-GM-Wuling and Tesla.

In fact, Geely Automobile has made leaps and bounds in the transformation of new energy sources.

According to data from the Passenger Passenger Association, Geely Automobile's retail sales of new energy vehicles in 2022 will be 304,900 units, a year-on-year increase of 277.9% compared to 80,000 units in 2021, and the growth rate is much higher than other car companies on the list.

In addition, some people in the industry pointed out that Geely Automobile's new energy product matrix is missing, and launching a new brand is the only way to go.

At present, within Geely's system, Geometry and Extreme Krypton are two important supports for the sales of new energy vehicles.

Jikr Auto sold about 72,000 vehicles last year, and delivered more than 10,000 vehicles for several consecutive months shortly after the official start of delivery.

The Geometry brand, established in 2019, was initially favored by the market. However, due to the unclear positioning of the C-end and the failure to seize the gap in the market where BAIC BJEV was not lagging behind, it has been in a state of sluggishness.

Entering 2022, Geometry has reorganized its brand positioning and defined it as a "popular" pure electric vehicle. Last year, sales reached 150,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 170%.

From the perspective of selling price, the price of Geometry brand is concentrated below 200,000 yuan, while the average sales price of Jikrypton exceeds 300,000 yuan. In the main price range of 200,000 yuan to 300,000 yuan, there are BYD Han, BYD Seal, Changan Deep Blue, Tesla Model 3 and many other blockbuster models, but Geely lacks a "capable" brand in this market.

As early as November 2015, Geely announced the new energy strategy "Blue Geely Action" in a high-profile manner, and stated that by 2020, the sales of new energy vehicles will account for more than 90% of Geely's overall sales.

At the 2022 semi-annual report performance meeting, Geely Automobile stated that by 2023, the monthly sales of new energy will account for more than 50%.

At present, Geely still has a lot of homework to do in order to take the leading position in the new energy tide.
