The new taxes on banks and energy companies have already raised more than 1,400 million in advance of the liquidation.

637 million the first and 817 million the second, as specified on Tuesday by the Minister of Finance.

And with these numbers, María Jesús Montero has advanced that the figure at the end of the year will be higher than the forecast that the Ministry itself had.

"

We believe that we are going to even exceed the figure of 3,000 million

," Montero stated at the press conference after the Council of Ministers.

But before offering those figures, Montero has reviewed the results that both banks and energy companies have published in recent weeks.

"Unpublished figures", pointed out the minister, who recalled that the "main energy companies reflect an increase of 43%,

almost 12,000 million euros in profits

and some only with accounting until September".

"This percentage is likely to increase over the full year," she added.

As for the large banks, the minister has pointed out that they obtained "more than 20,500 million profits in 2022", and at this point Montero has pointed directly to

Banco Santander and BBVA

.

She has not mentioned them expressly, but she did want to focus on "the two main financial groups", whose "turnover has increased by 25%".

And in case there was any doubt about which banks the minister was referring to, sources from the Treasury confirm that she was referring to the bank that runs the banks run by Ana Botín

and

Carlos

Torres
