Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture will start a service that allows ordinary people to use two newly introduced EVs (electric vehicles) as car sharing on weekends and holidays.

Yokosuka City signed a lease agreement with a car leasing company headquartered in Tokyo, and introduced two new EVs (electric vehicles) as official vehicles.

EVs are used as official vehicles only on weekdays, and on weekends and holidays when they are not used for official business, car leasing companies rent them out to citizens and tourists for a fee as a car sharing.

According to the city, car leasing contracts that are used for car sharing on weekends and holidays are less financially burdensome and can be expected to benefit the city.

In addition, in the event of a power outage due to a disaster, it is assumed that power will be supplied to public facilities using EVs.

Kei Shimada, Chief of the Yokosuka City Zero Carbon Promotion Section, said, "I would like everyone to experience EVs through car sharing and promote the decarbonization of Yokosuka City as a whole."
