The CGT union has called off the strike scheduled for this Saturday, February 11, in

Zara, Lefties and Pull&Bear

stores throughout Spain after the wage agreement reached with

Inditex

at the state table where the CCOO and UGT centrals have negotiated.

CGT had called a nationwide strike to demand a wage increase comparable to that achieved by the workers in the stores in A Coruña, who already called off a strike in December after the company committed to the majority union in the province, Confederation Intersindical Galega (CIG), to apply a salary increase of 322 euros per month.

The state table where the textile giant was sitting with the CCOO and UGT reached an agreement at 9:00 p.m. this Thursday that the unions described as "historic."

Early this Friday morning, the CGT maintained the strike call for Saturday.

"It is still summoned, we have not broken ranks," they assured from the union.

But with the passing of the hours and after comparing the information and the position of the different territories -some, in agreement with the salary agreement, in favor of calling off the strike and others, betting on maintaining it by considering the agreement insufficient and demanding guarantees- and exchange impressions with the company, changed the position.

Finally, the pressure from the company's legal team has had an effect and

the workers will not go on strike

.

Although from CGT they warn that they do not abandon "the conflict" and that they will only put it aside when it is felt that the measures address the needs of the workers and "a considerable improvement" is observed in payrolls.

In any case, Inditex has agreed to the union demand that the minimum wages be equalized between the different provincial agreements that govern the group for the personnel who work in retail establishments.

Specifically, the agreement sealed this Thursday establishes, for the 36,000 employees in stores throughout Spain,

a salary of 18,000 euros per year

, an amount to which other concepts included in the provincial agreements related to seniority, variables, commissions or night work will be added.

This salary will be for employees with less than 18 months of seniority, while for those who exceed that time in the company without reaching 4 years, it will rise to 20,000 euros.

Those who have been there even longer will reach 22,000 euros and a fourth tranche of a minimum of 24,500 euros is set for those who hold positions of responsibility in the stores of all the Inditex chains.

The new minimum wages -which are for full days, prorated for other cases- will begin to be collected with retroactive effect from January 1 and may be revalued in 2024 and 2025 according to the real CPI of the previous year.

According to the unions, all workers will receive the incentive of up to a thousand euros agreed in December this month and the minimum percentage of the commission system for all chains will rise to 1.4%.

social improvements

Likewise, other social improvements have been agreed, such as 450 euros for the birth of each child, up to 170 euros per month for childcare assistance per child and the same amount for payment of the nursery dining room;

200 euros per year in school supplies for each child between the ages of 3 and 18, up to 500 euros of help for university studies for each of them and 200 euros per month of help for each dependent family member, up to second degree, with degrees of dependency 1 and 2.

The company has also committed to specifying common rules on criteria for applying sales commissions, particularly in the case of Massimo Dutti, and objectives and measures to reduce unwanted part-time employment, promoting an increase in part-time working hours.

In addition, the enjoyment of quality breaks (free weekends) will be regulated and the classification in the different chains of the group will be reviewed.

Regarding work on holidays and Sundays, for those worked outside the ordinary working day, 12 euros per hour plus one free hour will be paid, or 24 euros per hour without refund.

For those who have Sundays included in their weekly schedule, 10 euros per hour will be paid.
