• January ends with 215,000 fewer jobs and an increase of 70,700 unemployed, in line with previous years

The public sector added a total of 68,008 employees

in 2022 -between

new civil servants and labor personnel-, of which

only 2.4% went to occupy health posts,

according to data for the full year published on Thursday by Social Security .

In total, the Public Administration had

2.88 million employees

at the end of the year , without counting here those civil servants who are not registered with Social Security but belong to a

mutual society

.

In fact, according to the Active Population Survey (

EPA

), the number of

public employees

in the country amounts to

3.52 million.

Of the 68,000 that have joined the public sector,

only 1,630 have joined the Health professionals,

a sector that has led many

labor disputes

in recent months throughout the country due to the

lack of personnel.

The Social Security has not yet provided data on public employment in January, since they are published with a time lag of one month, but a

decrease of 17,329 health professionals

is observed in the affiliation data only in the month of

January

- adding the public and private sectors.

Given the share of the public sector, it is foreseeable that a good part of this job loss will be in the Administration.

"This data is unheard of

taking into account the serious situation facing our National Health System, with the high incidence of pathologies typical of winter, the situation of

collapse of Primary Care,

the

saturation

of Emergency services in hospitals, the

waiting lists

and the exhaustion of professionals due to their employment situation. All of this demonstrates the lack of responsibility of our political leaders, at the expense of health and the deterioration of assistance to our citizens. We cannot continue like this," lamented yesterday the Independent Union Central and Officials (

CSIF

).

With this increase of 1,630 professionals,

Health

accumulates a total of

767,235 public employees in Spain.

The largest incorporation of civil servants in 2022 has occurred to reinforce the

Public Administration and the Defense and Social Security areas,

with an arrival of

27,831 workers

(

41%

of the total).

Given the protests of the Social Security due to the lack of personnel, it can be deduced that most of this contingent has gone to the General Administration.

A total of 1.19 million people

work in these segments

.

Health

is the second largest group, with

767,235

people

, and

Education

the third, with

475,875 employees.

Education

is the second sector that has received the most incorporations: in total,

22,205 new teachers,

the

equivalent of

33%

of the new hires.

Research and Development ( R&D

) work is far behind

, with 3,373 new hires;

technical

architecture and engineering

services (+2,646);

land

and pipeline transportation

(+2,328);

and

storage

and activities related to transport (+2,270).
