Unsurprisingly, high inflation affects all economic sectors.

The prices of Ryanair plane tickets should thus increase "by 5 to 10%" next summer compared to the same period of 2022, its director Michael O'Leary estimated on Wednesday in Lisbon.

The low-cost Irish company forecasts “strong demand” for this summer, driven in particular by the Asian market, after the lifting of health restrictions in China, and by American customers “who benefit from a strong dollar”.

Return of a profit

The carrier also announced on Monday a net profit of 211 million euros in the third quarter shifted from the 2022/2023 financial year, driven by the rebound in demand, particularly for the end-of-year holiday period, against a loss. of 96 million euros a year earlier.

In Portugal, the airline has announced 19 new destinations (Barcelona, Rome or Toulouse) from or to Faro and Porto airports.

Ryanair, which will then have a total of 164 destinations from Portugal, specifies however that it will not be able to grow in Lisbon "due to the absence of take-off slots" available due, among other things, to the saturation of the airport. and “airport tax increases”.

Portugal could also host Ryanair's new training center in the Porto region, said Michael O'Leary.

The decision will be known in the coming weeks.
