82-year-old Jeong Gye-yong, who lives in Nowon-gu, Seoul, has a sore leg and has to turn on the boiler all day.

Last month, she paid 180,000 won for gas, but she was not a basic livelihood recipient and was a 'second class', so she did not receive government support for heating costs.

[Jeong Gye-yong/Second upper class: I can't turn it off.

Because her legs prevented her from being in the cold.

It was over 180,000 won in January.

I haven't seen anything this month yet.

So I'm worried about those who don't have it.]

Last week, the government's first heating cost measures were targeted for social consideration, including some of the vulnerable, such as the elderly and the disabled, and households with multiple children among the basic livelihood recipients.

As the burden of heating costs in the winter skyrocketed, the difficulties of the underprivileged grew, and the government came up with additional measures to expand the recipients of support to both the basic livelihood recipients and the upper-middle class who are slightly better off than the recipients.

The subsidy amount is up to KRW 592,000 per household, and it is a method of discounting gas bills charged for four months from December of last year to March of this year.

Among the basic livelihood security recipients and the next-income class, the rate of gas use is high at 83.6%, and about 1.68 million households are expected to benefit.

Recipients who do not receive energy vouchers receive an additional 304,000 won in addition to the existing discount of 288,000 won, and the next-income class can receive an additional 448,000 won in addition to the existing 144,000 won. there is.

The government announced that it plans to encourage applications by cooperating with the Ministry of Public Administration and Security in order to solve the problem that those eligible for energy voucher support and gas fee discount support cannot receive support because they do not know the application qualifications and procedures.
