Despite a lack of snow at the start of the year, the ski resorts recorded a record attendance for the month of January: 60% occupancy, an increase of 15% compared to last season at the same time, reveals, this Wednesday, morning RTL.

According to figures provided by the profession, the expected occupancy rate for the first two weeks of February is 80%.

This represents an increase of 7% compared to last year.

Another record: reservations in ski schools, up 20%.

Return of foreign tourists

Finally, mid-mountain resorts are not to be outdone since they too have benefited from a "catch-up phenomenon" since the snow fell.

The return of foreign customers, after two years of Covid-19 and health restrictions, partly explains these good figures.

But also, more surprisingly, the war in Ukraine.

“When you have war on Europe's doorstep, inflation winning, you need to decompress.

There is nothing better than the mountains to get away from it all, ”says Jean-Luc Boch, President of the French Association of Mountain Resort Mayors, to RTL.
