The Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in Potsdam is facing several changes of guard - and the outgoing President of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) Lothar Wieler is the first prominent name on the future list of employees of the IT cadre factory.
Because the veterinarian, who will be 62 at the beginning of February, will be spokesman for the Digital Health Cluster, a department of the HPI that deals with medicine and IT - a field of work that the founder and sponsor of the institute, SAP co-founder Hasso Plattner, has been doing since years.

As a long-standing top manager of the RKI, Wieler is not only well known to the public and a proven science manager;
the pandemic expert is also considered a successful researcher.
In the relevant indices, he receives good values for his scientific work.
These include animal research as well as corona and pandemic research.
Wieler, who lives in Berlin, is married, has two adult children and is a self-confessed fan and paying member of 1. FC Köln.
After leaving the RKI, he will move to the HPI in April.
At the end of March, the long-time boss Christoph Meinel will hand over the office of managing director to three successors after 18 years: Marcus Kölling, the engineering specialist Tobias Friedrich and the AI expert Ralf Herbrich.
