The Verdi union continued its warning strikes in the collective bargaining dispute with Deutsche Post on Saturday.

A strike was called across the board, said a Verdi spokeswoman in the morning.

"Participation is great here," she added.

Verdi has called on employees in selected companies in the parcel and letter centers as well as in parcel, letter and group delivery nationwide to go on strike.

In view of the high inflation, the union is demanding 15 percent more wages for around 160,000 employees in Germany for a period of twelve months.

The Post had repeatedly dismissed the salary claim as unrealistic.

"In order to be able to pay attractive wages and to secure jobs in this area in the long term, income increases of the magnitude demanded by Verdi are not justifiable," emphasized a spokesman.

The company had announced that it would put an offer on the table in the third round of negotiations on February 8th and 9th.
