On the occasion of Mohammed Chia al-Soudani's first visit to Paris, Emmanuel Macron pledged to continue French aid in the fight against terrorism.
The Iraqi Prime Minister hoped, ahead of the visit, to deepen this cooperation through the training of Iraqi forces and the purchase of armaments.
But no announcement has been made about it.
Fight against corruption
On the other hand, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the French Anti-Corruption Agency and the Federal Integrity Commission of Iraq to fight against corruption.
A real scourge, the country is ranked among the last by the organization Transparency International.
Photovoltaic plant
On the issue of energy, France has again pledged to help renovate the Iraqi electricity network and the electricity interconnection with Jordan.
The Élysée ensures that the repayable export credit facilities will be extended for French companies in Iraq.
Including TotalEnergie, committed since 2021 to a ten billion dollar contract to build a photovoltaic power plant.
The construction has not yet started.
