China News Agency, Haikou, January 26 (Reporter Wang Ziqian) This year's Spring Festival holiday, the duty-free market in Hainan's outlying islands is showing a hot market.

According to data provided by the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce on the 26th, five days before the holiday (January 21 to 25), the total sales of 12 outlying island duty-free shops in the province were 1.685 billion yuan (RMB, the same below), compared with the 2022 Spring Festival holiday. The first five days (the same below) increased by 20.03%, an increase of 325% over 2019.

Among them, the total sales of the six outlying island duty-free shops in Haikou were 470 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 140%, and an increase of 641% over 2019; the total sales of the four outlying island duty-free shops in Sanya were 1.158 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 4%, an increase of 253% over 2019 %.

During the Spring Festival, Hainan Outlying Islands Duty Free Shop launched promotional activities such as the "Duty-Free New Year's Shopping Festival", including flash sales, discounts, full discounts, and lottery draws.

The two newly opened outlying island duty-free shops in Hainan - Haikou International Duty Free City and Wangfujing International Duty Free Port performed well.

Both stores integrate the "tax + tax-free" full format and catering and entertainment content. By creating a one-stop consumption destination, they have attracted a large number of residents and tourists from both inside and outside the island.

Affected by the epidemic, the duty-free sales on Hainan's outlying islands in 2022 fell short of expectations.

With the arrival of the peak tourist season in winter, duty-free shopping on Hainan's outlying islands is heating up rapidly.

According to data from Haikou Customs, from January 1 to 21 this year, the customs supervised a total of 3.26 billion yuan in duty-free shopping on outlying islands, 344,000 shoppers, 3.83 million items, and 9,478 yuan per capita.
