China's urban express delivery business volume rankings: Jinhua ranked first, and the small town in eastern Guangdong rose to fourth

Which cities had the largest express business volume last year?

According to the table of the top 50 cities with express business volume recently released by the State Post Bureau, Jinhua (Yiwu), Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Jieyang, Hangzhou, Dongguan, Shanghai, Shantou, Suzhou, and Quanzhou are among the top Ten, Beijing, Wuhan, Chengdu, Wenzhou, Foshan, Zhengzhou, Shijiazhuang, Ningbo, Linfen, and Taizhou rank 11 to 20.

Peng Peng, executive director of the Guangdong Provincial Restructuring Research Association, analyzed China Business News that cities with a large express business volume often have certain characteristics, such as being surrounded by manufacturing bases that produce a large number of products.

Secondly, there are large wholesale markets in the city, and there are many wholesale markets, so the volume of express delivery is large, because the wholesale market used to be offline, but now a large number of them are online.

Thirdly, places with more Taobao villages have more express delivery, such as Jieyang, Guangzhou, Jinhua and other places with more Taobao villages.

The rent in Taobao Village is relatively cheap, the storage cost is also cheap, and it is relatively close to road and railway hubs.

In addition, the large volume of express delivery in a city is also related to the local industrial structure and product structure.

Peng Peng said that light industrial products such as clothing, fast-moving food, and toys can be delivered to consumers through express delivery, and the use of light industrial products is greater, so the number of pieces is also large.

Among the top 50 cities with express business volume, Jinhua (Yiwu) ranked first with 11.8 billion pieces.

Among them, the number of express delivery in Yiwu accounts for a very high proportion in Jinhua.

For example, in 2020, the number of express delivery in Yiwu will account for nearly 80% of the city's total in Jinhua.

As the "capital of small commodities in the world", there are many merchants in Yiwu, and all kinds of small commodities are dazzling, and they are going to the world.

In recent years, Yiwu has actively transformed into e-commerce, and the number of express deliveries and e-commerce live broadcasts are outstanding.

Judging from the changes in recent years, from 2015 to 2016, the express delivery volume of Jinhua City was still hovering at the sixth place in the country. In 2017, it started to speed up and surpassed Hangzhou and Beijing in a row.

In 2018, it surpassed Shenzhen and Shanghai, second only to Guangzhou, ranking second in the country.

By 2020, the volume of express delivery in Jinhua will surpass that of Guangzhou, ranking first in the country with 9.01 billion pieces, and ranking first for three consecutive years.

Data show that from January to November 2022, Yiwu's e-commerce transaction volume exceeded 360 billion yuan.

In the whole year of 2022, Yiwu's total import and export value will be 478.8 billion yuan, an increase of 22.7% over 2021; of which exports will be 431.64 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18%; imports will be 47.16 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 93.5%.

After Jinhua (Yiwu), Guangzhou ranked second with 10.13 billion pieces.

As a "thousand-year business capital", Guangzhou has the best professional wholesale market in the country.

The Guangzhou professional wholesale market started early and has a large overall scale. It has formed a number of well-known industrial clusters throughout the country. These well-developed professional markets are important carriers of Guangzhou's traditional business functions.

These wholesale markets, while connecting large and small factories in the Pearl River Delta, attract merchants from more than 100 countries around the world.

The third place is Shenzhen, a first-tier city in the Pearl River Delta with Guangzhou, but there is a big gap between the express delivery business volume and the second place, which is only 57% of Guangzhou.

It is worth noting that Jieyang, a small city in eastern Guangdong, ranked sixth in the country in terms of express delivery business volume last year.

Shantou City, which is also located in eastern Guangdong and ranks 11th in the country in terms of express delivery business volume in 2021, has risen to eighth in the country this year.

The outstanding performance of the two prefecture-level cities in eastern Guangdong is closely related to the local industry and product structure on the one hand.

The light industry in the Chaoshan area is well developed, and products are most easily sold online.

For example, Jieyang City's private economy is very active, and its advantageous industries such as hardware and stainless steel, textile and clothing, jewelry and jade, plastic home furnishing, shoes and hats, and food are developing prominently. These products are more suitable for online sales.

Another reason is that last year, as large cities in the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta, such as Guangzhou and Shanghai, were greatly affected by the epidemic, some of the original orders in these regions were transferred to small and medium-sized cities such as Jieyang and Shantou that were less affected by the epidemic.

Judging from the growth rate in 2022, the express delivery business volume of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Zhengzhou, Ningbo and other major cities has declined to varying degrees. In contrast, Jieyang express delivery business volume increased by 5.55%, and Shantou Linfen City, which ranks 19th in express volume, increased by 8.12%, and Taizhou City, which ranked 20th, increased by 5.7%.

However, some of the orders transferred to Jieyang and other places are just that customers regard Jieyang and other places as short-term alternatives, which may not generate enough viscosity.

Peng Peng said that with the adjustment and optimization of epidemic prevention and control measures, the express delivery business volume in big cities like Guangzhou will recover significantly this year.

After all, there are so many professional wholesale markets in Guangzhou, and it is close to the manufacturing base in the Pearl River Delta, so the product variety is more complete, and the advantages are very obvious.

With the recovery of express business volume in big cities such as Guangzhou, the growth rate of business volume in prefecture-level cities such as Jieyang will also slow down.

Of course, there are indeed factors of industrial transfer.

Peng Peng said that from another perspective, in recent years, some light industry industries have been transferred to prefecture-level cities such as Jieyang. The cost of these prefecture-level cities is lower, and the transfer of industries in the past is also conducive to reducing various costs such as logistics, production, and warehousing. , so on the whole, the transfer and spillover of industries is also a trend.

In addition, although the express delivery business in Jieyang, Shantou, Linfen and other places has grown rapidly, there is still a big gap between these cities and big cities such as Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen in terms of gold content.

From the perspective of express delivery business revenue, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen rank among the top three, while Jieyang only ranks 9th, Shantou ranks 17th, and Linfen ranks 38th.
