The monthly payroll of pensions is already at almost 12,000 million.

In January,

the disbursement was 11,902 million

after the 8.5% increase decreed by the Government was already applied to maintain the purchasing power of pensioners.

This is a historical maximum and, in addition, a very strong increase from the previous payroll: 959 million more than in December 2022, which represents an increase of 9%.

And if the comparison is made with respect to last year,

the increase is almost 1,200 million more.

With all of this, the weight of the monthly payroll now reaches

11.7% of the Gross Domestic Product

(GDP), which once again demonstrates the notable effort involved in paying pensions while the Government, moreover, continues without closing the second part of the pension reform that he promised to have resolved with Brussels before the end of 2022.

This reform is the one that should

provide the system with greater resources

, mainly through the extension of the computation period and the uncapping of the maximum bases.

It is the least pleasant part, since the first contained the revaluation of pensions.

And it is a totally necessary measure because, on the one hand, the European funds are linked to the measure although the Government downplays the delay;

and, on the other, because pension spending has only risen, and very strongly, since Pedro Sánchez arrived in Moncloa.

As much, as the payroll has grown by more than 2,500 million since the change of Government took place.

By type of pension and average pension

Returning to the data published today, the Ministry of Social Security that José Luis Escrivá points out that "three quarters of the payroll of contributory pensions in January has gone to

retirement pensions

, specifically, 72.7%, that is,

8,649 million

euros".

"

1,996.4 million

euros have been allocated to

widow

's pensions , while the payroll of permanent disability benefits amounts to 1,062.9 million, that of orphans, 162.5 million euros and benefits in favor of relatives , to 31.2 million," he adds.

The average pension of the system amounts to

1,189 euros per month in January,

while the average retirement pension of the system, for its part, is

1,368 euros

and that of widows

, 848 euros.

In total, the system must

pay more than 10 million contributory pensions

, which is a new milestone since so many benefits have never been paid.

The mixture of aging, more pension and greater amount that supposes an exceptional rotation for the battered accounts of the Social Security.
