Nearly nine million households will receive an average amount of 624 euros from taxes on Monday.

This is the date that was chosen by the tax authorities this year to pay the 60% advance on tax credits and reductions for the sums incurred in 2022. In total, the State will thus pay nearly 5, 6 billion euros to taxpayers today.

All individuals who benefit from tax reductions for certain expenses, such as those related to accommodation in EPHAD, home employment, or donations made to associations or political parties, are concerned by the advances.

Since the tax authorities do not yet know the expenses incurred by individuals in 2022, this 60% advance is based on the amounts declared in 2021.

A second phase in the summer of 2023

In the summer of 2023, two scenarios are then possible.

If the amount of the advance is less than the amount eligible for expenditure in 2022, then the tax authorities will pay a supplement.

Conversely, if the amount of the advance is greater, the household will have to repay the overpayment in September.

Facilitate investments

The purpose of this advance, put in place after the arrival of the withholding tax, is to facilitate taxpayers' investments, since they no longer have to wait for the summer to receive the tax benefit associated with these expenses.

To avoid unpleasant surprises, however, households had the option of modulating or canceling the advance from the tax site during the last quarter of 2022.

The taxpayers concerned should therefore normally receive a transfer from the tax authorities on Monday, under the name of “Avance CREDIMPOT”.

The 221,000 tax households that have not provided their bank details should receive a check by post by the end of January.
