Last year, too, numerous consumers complained to the Federal Network Agency in Bonn about unauthorized telephone calls.

There were a total of 64,704, as the authority announced on Friday.

That was a drop of 19 percent compared to the previous year, but: "The number is still far too high," said the head of the authorities, Klaus Müller.

The Federal Network Agency was particularly frequently notified of calls in which energy supply contracts were advertised without permission.

Price comparison as a cover

The advertising often takes place under the guise of an alleged price comparison, as the network agency announced.

As in the previous year, advertising for financial and insurance products was particularly conspicuous.

Another common complaint was aggressively advertised magazine subscriptions and sweepstakes.

Consumers can report telemarketing calls to the Federal Network Agency that they have not previously consented to or for which they have withdrawn their consent.

You can use an online form for this at www.bundesnetzagentur.de/telefonwerbung-beschwerde.

In order to be able to convict the perpetrators, as precise and detailed information as possible is necessary, the authority said.

In 2022, she initiated investigations against numerous companies and imposed high fines totaling 1.151 million euros.

Müller also called on Friday to report suspected cases of electricity or gas rip-off.

"If there are such examples: Please let me know," said Müller in an interview with the broadcasters RTL and ntv.
