The total number of passengers through the country's airports jumped during the year 2022 to reach 101 million and 11 thousand and 623 passengers, an increase of 120 percent compared to 2021, when the number of passengers reached 45 million and 913 thousand and 180 passengers, according to the General Authority of Civil Aviation.

In detail, the number of travelers arriving through the country's airports in 2022 reached 29 million and 926 thousand and 799 arrivals, while the number of departures through the country's airports reached 29 million and 172 thousand and 619 departures, while the number of people transiting from the country's airports reached 41 million and 912 thousand and 205 passers-by.

Commenting on the recorded results, the Director General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Saif Al-Suwaidi, said that the civil aviation sector in the country succeeded in restoring the levels of passenger traffic recorded before the Corona pandemic, stressing that the recorded numbers translate the level of global confidence in the UAE aviation sector and its ability to maintain levels of passenger traffic. its escalating growth.

Al Suwaidi stressed, in exclusive statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the UAE aviation sector is a strategic hub and a major contributor to the national economy, recording today the highest growth rates in the world and providing the best services to travelers.

Al Suwaidi added: “The UAE has established its position as one of the most prominent global destinations in terms of stability and ability to continue growth, and today the UAE has succeeded in enhancing the standards for safe return, presenting reliable and effective scenarios that have become a leading model on the global level.” He added: “We are proud of the aviation sector in the country, which succeeded in strengthening its classification among The best in the world."

During the year 2022, the civil aviation sector in the country continued its exceptional path at the level of global achievements, as the UAE, represented by the General Authority of Civil Aviation, achieved a deserved victory by being re-elected to the membership of the International Civil Aviation Organization Council for the sixth time in a row, in the vote that took place during the meetings of the forty-first session of the General Assembly of the organization International Civil Aviation "ICAO" during the period from September 27 to October 7, 2022 in Montreal - Canada, and obtained 161 votes in the elections out of 175 who have the right to vote.

On the other hand, the UAE - represented by the General Authority of Civil Aviation - announced the adoption of a climate neutrality decision for the national aviation sector in the country, to be the first aviation sector in the region to adopt a decision of its commitment to climate neutrality, and the first sector at the state level to achieve an integrated commitment to this approach.

The decision paves the way for all other relevant sectors to work on developing the necessary strategy and plans for them to reach climate neutrality by 2050.

The UAE ranked first in the list of the 20 largest air transport markets in the world in terms of growth in scheduled seat capacity on flights at its international airports (number of seats), according to data published by OAG International, which provides data for airports and airlines.
