The General Authority of Civil Aviation revealed the total number of travelers through the country’s airports during the year 2022, which reached 101 million and 11 thousand and 623 passengers, an increase of 120% compared to the year 2021 in which the number of passengers reached 45 million and 913 thousand and 180 passengers.

The data showed that the number of “arriving” travelers through the country’s airports in 2022 reached 29 million and 926 thousand and 799 arriving passengers, while the number of “departure” travelers through the country’s airports reached 29 million and 172 thousand and 619 departing passengers, and the number of “transit” from the country’s airports reached 41. One million and 912 thousand and 205 passengers in transit.

The Director General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Saif Al-Suwaidi, said that the civil aviation sector in the country succeeded in restoring the levels of passenger traffic recorded before the Corona virus pandemic, stressing that the recorded numbers translate the level of global confidence in the UAE aviation sector, and its ability to maintain its escalating levels of growth. .

Al Suwaidi added that the UAE aviation sector constitutes a strategic pivot and a major contributor to the national economy, and is currently recording the highest growth rates in the world, and provides the best services to travelers.

He continued, "The UAE has established its position as one of the most prominent global destinations in terms of stability and the ability to continue growth, and today the UAE has succeeded in enhancing the standards for safe return, presenting reliable and effective scenarios that have become a pioneering model at the global level."

He said, "We are proud of the aviation sector in the country, which has succeeded in enhancing its ranking among the best in the world."

During the year 2022, the civil aviation sector in the country continued its exceptional journey at the level of global achievements, as the UAE, represented by the General Authority of Civil Aviation, achieved a deserved victory by being re-elected to the membership of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization, for the sixth time in a row.

On the other hand, the UAE announced the adoption of a climate neutrality decision for the national aviation sector in the country, to be the first aviation sector in the region to adopt a decision of its commitment to climate neutrality, and the first sector at the state level to achieve an integrated commitment to this approach.

The UAE ranked first in the list of the 20 largest air transport markets in the world in terms of growth in scheduled seat capacity on flights at its international airports (number of seats), according to data from OAG International, which provides data for airports and airlines.

In an indicator that reflects the recovery of the aviation sector in the Emirates, the number of destinations that national air carriers reach by the end of 2022 has reached 536 destinations, including common destinations, supported by the recovery in travel demand and the position of the UAE as a preferred global destination for tourism and business.

According to the annual report of the "Airline Ratings" website, which specializes in reviewing aviation safety and products, "Emirates Airlines" ranked seventh in the world in the list of commercial air carriers, while: "Air Arabia", "Fly Dubai" and "Wiz Air" ranked in the list "The 20 safest low-cost carriers" for the year 2023, so that the UAE is unique in the presence of five national companies from one country on the list of commercial carriers and the list of low-cost carriers.
