On January 10, the Windows 7 operating system ended ESU (Paid Extended Support), which means that for enterprise users, even if they want to pay again, Microsoft will no longer issue security patches.

Windows 7 was released in October 2009, mainstream support ended in 2015, and extended support ended in 2020. Then Microsoft launched ESU, which allows subscriptions to security patches through payment.

It is worth noting that, as of November 2022, Windows 7 has a market share of 10.25%, and Windows 8.1 has a market share of 2.53%, according to data statistics company Statcounter.

At the same time, Windows 8.1 has also entered EOL (end of project). Unlike Win7, although Win8.1 is younger, Microsoft will not launch ESU services.

In other words, the two operating systems will completely withdraw from the stage of history.

In addition, Windows 10 will also end support on January 14, 2025.
