  At the same time, the agency built an offline business district consumption heat index by tracking the flow of people in 232 key business districts in 83 cities in China. The indexes of all 83 cities, including key cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, have stabilized and rebounded, and the bustling shopping malls in the past are returning at an accelerated pace.

  Yang Daoling introduced that the life service industry consumption heat index constructed based on the order data of life service merchants such as catering, accommodation, leisure and entertainment has also continued to recover recently. As of January 2, it was 98.1, an increase of 4.0 points from the low point in December. Life service consumption is accelerating its "heating up". In particular, the consumption heat index of the tourism industry has increased by 45.7 points, showing the strongest recovery momentum.

  The familiar "buy, buy, buy" is returning, but China's consumption recovery still faces challenges.

The Central Economic Work Conference puts "focusing on expanding domestic demand" at the top of the five major tasks in 2023, emphasizing that the recovery and expansion of consumption should be given priority.

  According to Guo Liyan, director and researcher of the Comprehensive Situation Research Office of the China Academy of Macroeconomic Research, there are currently more positive factors and favorable conditions for China to accelerate the recovery and expansion of consumption, and there are more consumption growth points that can be expected.

  For example, as prevention and control policies are optimized and adjusted according to the time and situation, consumption scenarios related to the contact service industry will accelerate recovery and open up more.

With the acceleration of the national pooling of basic pension insurance and the accelerated implementation of birth policies such as encouraging the "three children", the consumption of "silver hair" and "children" is expected to accelerate the expansion and upgrading, and drive the consumption of related groups and families.

City-specific measures to promote a virtuous circle and healthy development of the real estate industry, and to accelerate the development of the long-term rental housing market will help to expand residential consumption in an orderly manner.

  Guo Liyan also pointed out that under the background of the in-depth integration of "5G + artificial intelligence + Internet of Things", new types of consumption are showing a development trend of vigorous growth, faster growth, larger volume, and continuous expansion of business models.

Vigorously promote green certified products, promote the widespread acceptance of green certification results, and promote e-commerce platforms and distribution companies such as shopping malls and supermarkets to open green and low-carbon product areas, which will expand the green consumer market for residents.

Comprehensively promoting rural revitalization and improving the quality of new urbanization construction will also help drive consumer goods and services such as new energy vehicles and green smart home appliances to the countryside, thereby further releasing rural consumption potential.
