A rush at the beginning of the year brought Postbank's servers to their knees.

The problem, which occurred on Monday afternoon, was resolved after a few hours, a spokesman for Deutsche Bank said.

This was preceded by the second wave of migration of Postbank customers to a shared platform with Deutsche Bank.

The disruption, which caused problems with online and mobile banking, was only indirectly related to this, the spokesman emphasized.

During the migration on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, Postbank customers were not able to do any online banking transactions, and the use of Postbank ATMs was also only possible to a limited extent.

At the turn of the year, another 4 million of a total of 19 million product contracts from Postbank customers were transferred to the new joint platform.

According to the spokesman, the transfer of securities accounts, savings products and current accounts as well as the first business and corporate customers was particularly complex, but was successful without any problems.

In addition, the future system landscape of the new common IT platform has been completed.

However, the migration of Postbank customers is not yet complete.

There will probably be restrictions again on the Easter holidays.

A fourth and probably final wave is also pending until the middle of the year, but has not yet been scheduled.

From 2025, the institute expects annual savings of EUR 300 million from the joint IT platform for all customers of Postbank and Deutsche Bank.
