Chinanews.com, December 29th. In order to guide the standard labeling of formula foods for special medical purposes (hereinafter referred to as special medical foods) and guide doctors, clinical nutritionists and consumers to use special medical foods scientifically and rationally, the State Administration for Market Regulation has recently formulated and issued the "Special Medical Foods" Guidelines for the Labeling of Formula Foods for Medical Purposes (hereinafter referred to as the Guidelines).

The Guidelines are divided into five parts, including basic requirements, content requirements, main display layout requirements, prohibitive requirements and other requirements.

The "Guide" clarifies that the labeling of food for special medical treatment refers to the words, symbols, numbers, and patterns that are printed, pasted, labeled or attached to the packaging of the smallest sales unit of food for special medical treatment to identify and explain the basic information, characteristics or attributes of the food. and other instructions, including labels and instructions.

The "Guidelines" emphasize that the labeling of food for special medical treatment should comply with the provisions of relevant laws, regulations, rules and national food safety standards, and if it involves the content of the registration certificate of food for special medical treatment, it should be consistent with the content of the registration certificate.

The "Guide" requires that labels and instructions should be true and standardized, scientifically accurate, easy to understand, clear and easy to distinguish, and must not contain false, exaggerated or absolute language

.

The "Guide" systematically summarizes the 13 items that need to be marked on the labels and instructions of food for special medical treatment, refines the font requirements for product names, trade names and trademarks of enterprises, clarifies the labeling requirements for clinical trials of specific nutritional formula foods, and puts forward the "warning statement" and Precautions" content font and warning language requirements.

In view of the fact that the main display pages of some products currently have many and complicated labeling content, which is not conducive to consumers' clear identification of problems, the "Guidelines" clearly proposes the content that should be marked on the main display pages, and for the first time proposes that the minimum sales package of special medical food should be marked with the exclusive mark of special medical food " Little Blue Flower".

The logo should be marked on the upper left corner or upper right corner of the main display page of the label, and can be changed according to the proportion of the style.

Non-special medical food shall not use or embezzle the special medical food logo.

Based on the practice of registration management in recent years, the "Guidelines" clarifies that for the same food for special medical treatment produced by the same enterprise, the content of the label (excluding net content, specifications, and taste), format and color should be consistent, so that consumers can clearly identify the food for special medical treatment when purchasing it. Food; Emphasize that labels and instructions must not make functional claims on the nutrients in the product to avoid misleading consumers.

In addition, from the perspective of safe use of special medical food, some product warning instructions and precautions have been added.

The "Guidelines" also prohibit labels and instructions from labeling involving falsehoods, exaggerations, and content such as prevention, treatment of diseases, and health care functions.

The "Guide" is a technical guidance document, which aims to standardize the logos of FSMP enterprises, guide doctors, clinical nutritionists and consumers to use them scientifically and rationally, and further enhance the awareness and recognition of FSMP in the whole society.
