Consumer prices rose more than 5% this year, the highest since the Asian financial crisis.

Consumer prices this month recorded 5.0%, the same as last month.

The National Statistical Office said that the annual consumer price index in 2022 rose 5.1% from last year, the highest since the 7.5% during the Asian financial crisis.

This year's inflation rate started at 3.6% in January, rose steeply to 5.4% in May, 6.0% in June, and 6.3% in July, then gradually slowed down.

However, inflation is not going down easily due to the increase in electricity and gas rates.

Consumer prices rose 5.0% this month, the same as last month, but since last May, the upward trend of more than 5% has continued for the eighth month.

Eo Woon-seon, director general of economic trends and statistics at the National Statistical Office, said, "Increased prices for industrial products such as processed food and petroleum products, but the rise in prices for personal services centered on dining out slowed, showing the same rate of increase as last month."
