Enedis announced on Monday that the electricity consumption of public lighting in France was down 20% over the first two weeks of December.

A considerable figure that we owe to the efforts of the municipalities.

Enedis described this drop as “historic”.

“[It] represents a saving of 100 megawatts (MW) of power demand.

That is 10% of a nuclear reactor”, indicated the territorial director of the supplier to

Parisian

 who relayed the information.

This reduction has enabled many municipalities to save money.

An effort still insufficient

Many elected officials announced in November that, in a context of energy sobriety, measures would be taken to reduce the electricity consumption of municipalities.

Public lighting, which represents 40% of consumption for the territories, was the first source of savings cited, notes

.

However, only 30% of the 36,000 French municipalities actually took action in the first half of December.

If this number has already allowed a nice drop in consumption, efforts are still to be made.

Especially since with energy prices constantly rising, it's time to save money wherever possible.
