Officials in the hospitality sector told "Emirates Today" that the hotel market in Dubai is looking forward to recording full occupancy rates during New Year's Day, with the influx of international visitors reaching its highest levels, pointing out that Dubai is a prominent tourist destination in the world, and a primary destination for visitors from different countries. markets.

Christopher Lund, director of the hotel department in the Middle East and North Africa region at Colliers Consulting Studies, said that Dubai received 11.4 million visitors for the purpose of staying overnight or more, from January to October 2022, compared to the same period in 2021 when it received 4.88. Millions of visitors, pointing out that the numbers are close to equaling their counterparts before the "Covid-19" pandemic, when Dubai received 13.5 million visitors during the same period.

Lund expected Dubai to benefit from the increasing demand from visitors to stay there, with this demand increasing further in conjunction with the holiday season.

He explained that the average occupancy rate in Dubai during the period from January to October 2022, which is 71.5%, is higher than last year, which recorded 63.7%.

He stressed that, based on previous years' data, hotel operators expect a very strong performance during this December, as it is the traditional peak season for hotels.

Lund pointed out that the most prominent markets from which Dubai attracts visitors are: the Gulf Cooperation Council countries with 22% of the total number of visitors, followed by Western European countries with 20%, then South Asia with 17%.

He continued, "Specifically, the largest number of international visitors comes from India, followed by visitors from Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and Russia," indicating that the number of visitors from India increased by 116% compared to 2021, and from Oman by 572% compared to 2021. In 2021, by 32% compared to 2019, while the number of visitors from Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom increased by 267% and 254%, respectively, compared to 2021.

He pointed to the most important tourist attractions in Dubai, such as the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall, the Museum of the Future, Expo City, the Global Village, Dubai Marina and the GBR promenade.

In addition, the region's general manager for the InterContinental Dubai Festival City hotels, Thomas Schmelter, said that the group has witnessed a high rate of reservations since the beginning of the year, compared to 2021.

He added: «With the desire of many tourists to spend their holidays in Dubai, we received a large number of visitors to the emirate during the year, most of whom were from Saudi Arabia, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and other countries of the world, and we also received in our hotels a large number of tourists from Inside the Emirates, both citizens and residents.

Schmelter pointed out that the country witnessed the holding of many international conferences and exhibitions, and the momentum increased during the activities of the FIFA World Cup, noting that with the end of 2022 approaching and the beginning of a new year, the group expects full occupancy of its four hotels: «InterContinental Dubai Festival City». , “Intercontinental Residence Dubai Festival City”, “Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City”, and “Holiday Inn & Suites Dubai Festival City”.

In the same context, the regional director of the “Hyatt Hotels Group” in Dubai and the general manager of the “Grand Hyatt” hotel, Fathi Khogli, said that the hotel market in Dubai recorded high occupancy levels throughout the months of November and December, and is currently at peak levels in conjunction with the holidays and occasion New Year's Eve.

Khojaly added that the occupancy rates in all the group's hotels reach about 80%, and it is expected that some of these projects will record full occupancy rates during the New Year, noting that most of the guests are international visitors.

Khojaly pointed out that Dubai is a prominent tourist destination on the occasion of the New Year's Day, due to its high attractiveness and global status, stressing that the movement of international visitors to Dubai is currently at its peak.

He said, "Expectations indicate strong bookings in the coming months for leisure tourism, as well as business tourism and conferences."

The CEO of the Time Hotels Group, Muhammad Awad Allah, said that the tourist demand for Dubai is at its highest level, indicating that the group's hotels in Dubai record full occupancy rates during New Year's Eve.

He added that during this period, Dubai attracts large numbers of international visitors from different countries of the world, as it is a global destination for celebrations, allowing visitors various tourist experiences in its famous destinations, pointing out that Dubai is also witnessing a strong movement from the Arab markets during this occasion.
