A few days ago, the digital renminbi app ushered in an important update, adding the functions of "exclusive avatar" and "personal red envelope".

Different from WeChat and Alipay red envelopes, digital RMB red envelopes can be issued and collected on multiple platforms such as WeChat, QQ, and Alipay.

A reporter from China Business News opened the digital renminbi app and found that a "cash red envelope" option was added to the "service" page.

Unlike "consumer red envelopes" issued by the government, enterprises and other units, which have specified usage conditions and cannot be deposited back into bank accounts, cash red envelopes are a kind of digital RMB red envelopes that are directly included in the balance of digital wallets. There are no usage restrictions after cash red envelopes are received and can be used to pay or deposit back into the account.

There is another option for sending red envelopes during the Chinese New Year

The digital RMB cash red envelope interface shows that red envelopes are divided into two categories: "group red envelopes" and "exclusive red envelopes".

"Exclusive red envelopes" can be sent to designated mobile phone contacts.

"Group red envelopes" can be issued by the sender through social platforms such as WeChat, QQ, and Alipay. The faster you grab the bigger the red envelope.

The sender can also choose the cover of the red envelope. At present, there are many covers in the app such as "Blessing the Motherland", "Happy Birthday", "Prosperous Fortune", "Gong Xi Fa Cai" and "Nian Nian Surplus" for users to choose.

Industry experts believe that the digital RMB red envelopes can be issued and collected on multiple platforms, which reflects the concept of ecological interoperability that digital RMB has always advocated.

The second highlight of this update is the new exclusive avatar function.

Users can click on the avatar area in the upper left corner on the "My" page, and 6 avatars will be generated by default at a time, and one of them can be selected as the exclusive avatar.

The avatar graphic is based on the digital RMB IP "Yuanyuan" image.

The description shows that the exclusive avatar is unique and will not be repeated with other users.

Users can also click "Avatar Pendant" on the "Avatar Management" page to add decorative elements to the avatar.

The digital renminbi avatar function is embedded in the digital renminbi App promotion strategy.

The rules show, "Each account has only one chance to generate an avatar by default. You can invite users who have not registered with the Digital RMB App to participate in the event by sharing the avatar poster. For every 3 new users successfully recruited, you can increase the chance to generate a new avatar. The more users you bring in, the more chances you have to generate additional avatars."

Expansion of pilot cities

On December 16, the digital renminbi pilot expanded again.

The digital renminbi App shows that on the basis of the existing pilot areas, the previous Shenzhen, Suzhou, Xiongan, and Chengdu have been expanded to Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hebei, and Sichuan provinces, and Jinan City in Shandong Province, Nanning City in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Nanning City in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have been added. Fangchenggang City, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, and Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture serve as pilot areas.

After multiple expansions, the pilot area has involved 26 regions in 17 provincial-level administrative regions across the country, including: Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei Province, Dalian, Shanghai, Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang (Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Huzhou, Shaoxing, Jinhua ), Fujian (Fuzhou, Xiamen), Shandong (Jinan, Qingdao), Changsha, Guangdong Province, Guangxi (Nanning, Fangchenggang), Hainan Province, Chongqing, Sichuan Province, Yunnan (Kunming, Xishuangbanna), Xi'an.

The addition of more regions to the pilot will help to conduct larger-scale test applications of digital renminbi on a wider scale, allowing more people to experience the charm of digital renminbi in advance.

Since the beginning of this year, the issuance of digital renminbi red envelopes and consumer coupons has become a new trend in various places to promote consumption and stabilize growth.

The People's Bank of China previously stated that in 2022, the governments of the pilot regions will carry out nearly 30 digital RMB consumption red envelope activities around the themes of "promoting consumption", "fighting the epidemic", and "low-carbon travel". Promotional activities can effectively promote the recovery of social consumption and the release of potential.

For example, after the fourth expansion of the digital renminbi pilot, Meituan and the Bank of China issued digital renminbi consumer gift packages to a new batch of residents in the pilot areas.

Residents in the new pilot area can open the Meituan App to search for "digital renminbi", complete the registration and receive a digital renminbi consumption gift package worth 80 yuan.

The gift packs cover a variety of online and offline consumption scenarios for residents. Consumers can use them to order takeaways on Meituan, buy fresh vegetables, buy movie tickets, buy daily necessities, and buy dining coupons in stores.

This is an important action by the scene support organization to respond to the further expansion of the pilot scope of the digital renminbi, and it is also another measure for the digital renminbi to boost consumption through the Internet retail platform.

People in the industry generally believe that with the continuous expansion of the pilot program, the value of the digital renminbi to boost consumption and serve entities has been widely recognized by local governments, and the inclusiveness and "people's nature" continue to be highlighted.

Internet retail platforms with rich consumption scenarios have gradually become the main entrance for people to use digital renminbi, and will play a more active role in helping the popularization and promotion of digital renminbi and serving the real economy.
