flydubai concludes a month of match day flights from Al Maktoum Airport
flydubai announced today that it has made it possible for more than 130,000 football fans to travel easily to participate in the biggest football tournament in the world.
The company operated 1,290 flights between Al Maktoum Airports (Dubai World Central) and Doha International Airport during the period from November 21 to December 19.
Passengers from more than 171 countries enjoyed the ease of traveling to Doha on match day flights to cheer on their favorite teams. The top 10 nationalities in terms of the number of passengers were distributed over countries such as the United Kingdom, India, the United Arab Emirates, France, Argentina, the United States, Morocco, Jordan, Canada and Brazil, who made up up to 60% Of the total number of passengers on these flights.
Commenting on this achievement, Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said: “We are very pleased with the great success of the match day flights to Doha thanks to the support and cooperation between the various competent authorities in Dubai as well as the authorities in Qatar.
These flights have enabled more football fans to travel and enjoy the excitement of the tournament with ease and comfort.
This is the highest air traffic between two cities in the region, and there have never been up to 30 daily round-trip flights between two countries, and this indicates the high level of commitment, efficiency and cooperation required to successfully accomplish this mission.”
flydubai operated up to 30 return flights per day between Al Maktoum (Dubai World Central) and Doha International Airports with one departing every 30 minutes during peak travel periods of the day.
These flights were operated by seven Boeing 737 aircraft that were temporarily stationed at Al Maktoum Airport for this purpose for the duration of the tournament.
As a regional airline partner, flydubai has unveiled a special football livery on two new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, to celebrate the Argentina national football team's World Championship victory.
