Officials in those centers told "Emirates Today" that the shift to smart patterns has become one of the most prominent criteria for competitiveness in the retail trade sector, pointing to the repercussions imposed by the "Covid-19" pandemic, and its role in the rapid adoption of expanded smart services in the sector.

Fouad Sharaf, General Manager of Shopping Centers in the UAE at Majid Al Futtaim Real Estate Company, said that the company recently launched expanded initiatives for smart services through its shopping centers in Dubai to facilitate shoppers.

He stressed that the shift towards smart initiatives keeps pace with the rapid developments in the local markets, and that smart services in the retail trade sector have become one of the criteria for competitiveness and important added value in the sector.

He added that these initiatives included the provision of “smart mirrors” that provide digital information to shoppers in clothing stores in the “Mall of the Emirates” shopping center, which allows the shopper to know the sizes and colors of the product he wants to buy, with a virtual experience of measurements, and the ability to request “remote assistance” in the fitting rooms. For his part, Abdul Hameed Al Khashabi, the official spokesman for the “Aswaaq” group centers affiliated with the Investment Corporation of Dubai, said that the group has a great interest in implementing smart initiatives, as it recently launched initiatives that use artificial intelligence techniques and guide consumers through smart phone applications to the locations of goods in outlets. The group is in Dubai, with other services that allow the purchase of goods and the payment process without the need for traditional cash registers.

He added that the group also launched a smart store in a residential complex in Dubai, pointing out that the store operates without employees, and uses sensor technologies for commodities and smart scanning when making purchases.
