On paper, the countries present

at the summit

held in Jordan on Tuesday, December 20, displayed a convergence of points of view.

But each has also reaffirmed its own interests.

A few words came up with insistence in the various speeches: an appeal for the stability of Iraq, its security and the need for non-interference in the internal affairs of a State.

"

Iraq is the scene of influences, of incursions

"

, regretted the French President, Emmanuel Macron.

Iraq rejects any

[…]

aggression against its territory

,”

said Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al Soudani.

Turkey and Iran stick to their position on Iraqi territorial integrity

The conference's final declaration reaffirms

Iraqi

"

support

[...]

for sovereignty

" .

It also stresses the need to establish

constructive regional ties on the basis of good neighborliness and non-intervention in the internal affairs of States

.

In word and on paper, the commitment is there.

But if they are not cited, it is Turkey and Iran that were targeted.

Both countries are carrying out military operations against Kurdish groups in northern Iraq.

And Ankara and Tehran have not made a commitment to respect Iraqi territorial integrity:

"

we must put an end to terrorism in the region

",

replied the Turkish ambassador to Jordan, in reference to the activities of the PKK, a Turkish Kurdish group in northern Iraq.

A position below the expectations of the organizers of this conference and the French Minister of Foreign Affairs mentioned the possibility of

"

sanctions

"

.
