Former Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess is to take over the chairmanship of the supervisory board at Munich chip manufacturer Infineon.

Infineon announced on Friday that the supervisory board is proposing Diess for election at the general meeting on February 16.

The 64-year-old should replace Wolfgang Eder, who will no longer compete.

It is a return for Diess: He was a member of Infineon's control committee from 2015 to 2020.

The 71-year-old management consultant Hans-Ulrich Holdenried is also leaving the Infineon Supervisory Board.

His successor is Klaus Helmrich, who headed the Digital Industries division at Siemens until 2021.
