The Hanbit Unit 4 nuclear power plant, which had been shut down due to a defect in the reactor containment, is back in operation after five years.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission held a 'pre-critical meeting' with related organizations such as Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety at the Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant Regional Office of Yeonggwang Wonan Committee in Jeollanam-do and decided to restart Hanbit Unit 4.

Previously, the NSSC held a meeting of the Nuclear Safety and Security Committee yesterday (8th) to confirm all the matters to be checked before restarting the nuclear power plant, and said that the safety of nuclear power plant operation was confirmed, saying that the void inspection and structural integrity evaluation conducted so far were appropriate.

During a regular inspection in May 2017, Hanbit Unit 4 was shut down after 140 air gaps and corrosion of steel plates were confirmed inside the containment building.
