The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' Public Transportation Union Cargo Solidarity Headquarters (Cargo Solidarity) returns to the field.

According to the Jeonbuk Headquarters of the Cargo Solidarity today (9th), as a result of the vote for and against all union members on whether to withdraw the general strike today, more than half of the votes to end the strike were reached.

The total number of voters out of 26,144 union members is 3,575 (13.67%).

Among them, 2,211 people (61.82%) were in favor of ending the strike, and 1,343 people (37.55%) were against it.

There were 21 (0.58%) invalid votes.

The low voter turnout of the cargo union members, at around 13%, seems to be due to the fact that some members, tired of the general strike that lasted 16 days, left the site and the enthusiasm for participating in the strike decreased.

According to the results of the vote, the cargo union will lift the strike and return to the site from today.

Today, the cargo solidarity busan headquarters made a decision to disperse without voting.

An official from the Cargo Solidarity said, "Starting today, we will end the strike and return to the field."

After the voting results were announced, members of the Cargo Solidarity are rushing to finish the strike, such as walking in sit-in tents at strike sites across the country.

They hold a disbanding ceremony for each regional headquarters and return to the field.

The withdrawal of the general strike by the Korea Cargo Workers' Union is also read as a background for the fact that the general strike, which inflicts a major blow to the economy, such as logistics paralysis, failed to gain national consensus in a situation where economic conditions at home and abroad deteriorated, such as high oil prices and high interest rates.

The 'Safe Cargo Fare System' advocated by the Korea Cargo Solidarity is a system that guarantees a driver's minimum transportation fee.

It was introduced only for cement and container cargo in 2020 and is about to end at the end of this year.

The Korea Cargo Solidarity argued that the scope of application of the safe freight rate system should be expanded to other cargo areas besides cement and containers, and that it should be continuously implemented.

Previously, the cargo union started a strike on the 24th of last month, demanding the permanent safe fare system and the expansion of applicable vehicle models and items.

Transportation of two items, such as containers and cement, is subject to the safe fare system.

As the strike continued for the 16th day, damage snowballed in industries such as cement, steel, and petrochemicals.

Yesterday, the government announced that shipments of steel products and petrochemical products fell by 48% and 20%, respectively, compared to normal, and the scale of disruption in shipments reached 2.6 trillion won in total, 1.3 trillion won each.
