According to the Wall Street Journal, iPhone maker Apple has accelerated its plans to withdraw parts of its production from China in recent weeks.

Apple is asking its suppliers to be more active in planning the assembly of Apple products to other countries in Asia, the newspaper reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

There should be relocations to India and Vietnam in particular.

The unrest in the world's largest iPhone factory of Apple supplier Foxconn also contributed to the development, it said.

The Reuters news agency recently reported that problems at the plant in the central Chinese industrial metropolis of Zhengzhou were affecting production ahead of the important Christmas season more than previously thought.

The production of Apple smartphones will decrease by at least 30 percent instead of up to 30 percent as previously assumed.

The factory mainly builds the latest iPhone 14.

In November, the plant in Zhengzhou operated in a so-called closed cycle due to the corona infections in China, which were at record highs at the time.

This means that the 200,000 employees lived and worked in isolation from the outside world on the site.

On the 1.4 square kilometer area there are not only halls of residence, but also restaurants and sports facilities.

This Foxconn factory is almost as big as the main island of Heligoland.
