Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong was attending a trial on the alleged unfair merger between Samsung C&T and Cheil Industries when he almost got hit by an egg.

Chairman Lee arrived in front of the front gate of the General Court Complex in Seocho-gu, Seoul at 9:40 to attend the trial scheduled for 10:00 am today (the 1st).

As Chairman Lee got out of the car and stepped toward the government building, an egg flew from his left side.

Chairman Lee was not hit by the egg, but he looked surprised at what had suddenly happened.

The court guards were also embarrassed and hurriedly guarded the area around Chairman Lee.

The person who threw the egg turned out to be broadcaster Mo Lee.

Lee has nothing to do with Samsung, so it is not known why he threw eggs at Chairman Lee.

The court is reviewing ways to accuse Lee or limit court attendance.

In the process of merging Cheil Industries and Samsung C&T, Chairman Lee was indicted in September 2020 on charges of intentionally raising Cheil Industries' stock price and lowering Samsung C&T's stock price in order to strengthen his group's control (violation of the Capital Market Act, etc.) up to trial.

Chairman Lee's side is claiming innocence, saying that it was part of rational management judgment and that business performance improved after the merger.
