“According to people familiar with the matter, European Union countries are discussing capping the price of Russian crude at $60 per barrel,” the agency said in a statement.

It is noted that it is not clear whether all countries support such a price cap.

Earlier, RIA Novosti, citing a source in Brussels, reported that the European Union is likely to set a ceiling on the price of oil from Russia at $62 per barrel, despite calls from Poland and the Baltic states to lower it.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that Russia has a tough position on the price limit for oil - it is unacceptable, regardless of the level.
