As Christmas approaches, toys are not going to be spared from inflation, reports BFM Business, which relays information from the NPD panelist.

According to the latter, the sector has experienced a price increase of 6% in one year, equivalent to the level of inflation.

However, for certain brands and for certain references, prices have exploded even more widely in recent months.

Barbie products, for example, increased by an average of 15% between 2021 and 2022, according to 60 Million consumers.

In detail, the famous doll's motorhome, which was sold for 77 euros at Auchan last year, is now offered at 104.24 euros, an increase of 35%.

Thanks to a promotion, its price has however temporarily fallen to 94.20 euros.

Video games, 44% more expensive

At Lego, the price increase exceeds on average 15%.

The Danish group is thus the one that has seen its prices increase the most.

BFM Business cites the example of the Lego Creator pirate ship which was sold for 79.50 euros by Auchan in 2021. The price displayed for this set in this same store is now 104.90 euros, i.e. a 32% increase.

In total, the brand has increased its prices twice, in the first and second quarters of 2022.

Beyond the brands, it is sometimes certain entire segments that are affected by strong increases.

60 Million consumers reported an average increase of 14% for educational games and even a 44% increase in the price of video games.

This sector continues to be affected by the shortage of components, while also suffering from soaring energy costs and logistics costs.
