“The first batch of fertilizers with a volume of 20,000 tons left the Netherlands on a WFP-chartered vessel MV Greenwich and headed to Malawi via Mozambique,” the report says.

This will be the first in a series of fertilizer deliveries destined for a number of countries on the African continent.

The UN welcomes Russia's donation of 260,000 tons of fertilizer stored in European ports and warehouses, the Secretary General's office added.

They stressed that this will serve to alleviate humanitarian needs and prevent catastrophic crop losses in Africa, where the planting season is underway.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed Russia's readiness to provide Africa with agricultural products and fertilizers.

As noted in the UN, the organization managed to solve many problems that impede the export of Russian food and fertilizers.

After that, it became known that a ship with Russian fertilizers would leave the port in the Netherlands and go to Malawi.
