China's aviation regulator has approved the mass production of the domestic C919 short-haul jet.

This was announced by the manufacturer Comac on Tuesday.

A rival for the Airbus A320neo and Boeing's 737 MAX, the C919 is expected to start delivering to customers next month.

From the first half of 2023, the machine at China Eastern Airlines should carry the first passengers.

According to a report last month, analysts at Jefferies expect COMAC to produce about 25 aircraft annually by 2030, a fraction of the production of the two major western aircraft manufacturers.
