Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of Russia Alexei Kudrin announced his resignation from the post of head of the department.

He submitted a corresponding statement to President Vladimir Putin, which he announced on Tuesday, November 29, in his Telegram channel.

“In total, I spent about 25 years in the public sector.

Now I would like to focus on large projects that are related to the development of private initiatives in a broad sense, but at the same time have a significant effect on people,” Kudrin wrote.

The issue of early resignation of the head of the Accounts Chamber is planned to be considered at a meeting of the Federation Council on Wednesday, November 30.

The profile committee of the upper house of parliament on the budget and financial markets has already unanimously recommended that senators dismiss Alexei Kudrin from office, TASS writes.

At the same time, the Kremlin did not announce the candidacy of the new chairman of the Accounts Chamber.

In addition, as Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday, Vladimir Putin does not plan to meet with Alexei Kudrin in the near future, but their interaction may continue in the future.

“They really worked side by side for decades.

But Kudrin himself, as you know, in his statement noted that he had in mind to continue to focus on large projects that concern a large number of people, so one way or another, some intersections with the state will inevitably take place, ”Peskov said.

Alexei Kudrin has been in charge of the Accounts Chamber since May 2018.

Prior to that, he headed the Ministry of Finance of Russia, was deputy presidential administration and twice served as deputy prime minister of the country.

In addition, at various times Kudrin was the chairman of the board of the Center for Strategic Research and was a member of the board of directors of VTB, ALROSA, Gazprom and Sberbank.

The work of Alexei Kudrin in the Accounts Chamber in many ways contributed to the increase in the authority of the department.

This opinion was shared with RT by the head of the laboratory for the analysis of institutions and financial markets of the Institute for Applied Economic Research of the RANEPA Alexander Abramov.

“Under Kudrin, the Accounts Chamber became a body of state power, which began to focus specifically on long-term projects.

The specialists of the department not only looked for violations, but also suggested ways to develop those areas that they checked.

We can note, for example, the participation of the joint venture in assessing the activities of the Central Bank and proposals for the development of the financial market,” Abramov said.

Georgy Ostapkovich, director of the Center for Market Research at the Institute for Statistical Research and the Economics of Knowledge at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, shares a similar point of view.

According to him, in recent years, the joint venture has been engaged in a number of in-depth thematic reviews and has always offered concrete solutions to emerging problems.

“Traditionally, the competence of the Accounts Chamber is solely to draw conclusions on financial audit.

Under Kudrin, the service made deeper analyzes of the situation, openly said that one department was being overfunded, while the other, on the contrary, needed to be supported more strongly.

Moreover, Kudrin's candidacy was once unanimously approved by the deputies and during his work in the department there were no big complaints against him.

So he was in his place, ”said the interlocutor of RT.

According to RIA Novosti, citing sources, by the end of 2022, Alexei Kudrin may go to work at Yandex.

Note that the company is currently planning to restructure.

In particular, the division of business assets into the Russian part and the international one is being discussed.

“Yandex NV is considering the possibility of separating the main part of the business, including a number of foreign areas, into a separate group of companies that will retain the Yandex brand.

The Dutch Yandex NV plans to eventually withdraw from the shareholders of this group of companies and change its name, ”the company said on November 25.

It is assumed that the changes will help ensure the sustainable development of Yandex's business in all markets.

The organization will continue to develop as a private, independent group of companies and compete with local and global players, the statement said.

“Given the planned reorganization, the arrival of Kudrin could be a plus for the company.

He has a rather liberal approach to business, and he will not introduce excessive statehood into the mode of business.

At the same time, Kudrin is a good economist and has stable ties with the state, which is important for the company in terms of business development at the present time,” Alexander Abramov believes.
