Iryo Transport opens this week to compete with Avlo and Ouigo: these are the routes and prices
The prices of train tickets to travel between
Madrid
and
Barcelona
in the last three months have dropped on average by 43%, compared to the same period before the pandemic, after the entry of the competition to
Renfe
, as well as the premiere of its 'low cost' train, Avlo.
This Friday, in addition, a new operator,
Iryo
, will be launched, which joins the operations that Renfe already carries out with its regional trains,
AVE
and
Avlo
, and those of
Ouigo
, on the route between the capital and Barcelona.
According to data from
Trainline
, a ticket sales platform, prices in this relationship have gone from an average of 81 euros to an average cost per ticket of 46 euros today.
On the other hand, in this last quarter, on non-liberalized routes, such as
Alicante-Madrid,
Malaga-Madrid
or
Seville-Madrid
, prices have increased by around 14% compared to the same period in 2019.
"The increase in reservations and the decrease in prices shows that everyone wins in a competitive market: more passengers on trains, lower prices and a modal shift towards more sustainable means of transport", explained the director of Trainline Spain,
Andrea Saviane
.
Likewise, the recovery of mobility and the greater travel options are increasing the demand for the use of the train.
In the last nine weeks, Trainline has registered a 68% increase in travel bookings for the Madrid-Barcelona route, compared to the same period last year.
