Activists glue themselves to the street, endangering human lives.

They throw mashed potatoes at historically valuable works of art.

Surely they have a worthwhile goal, right?

Not even close.

They want to protect the climate, they say.

But then they give precise instructions on how to do it.

And that's where it gets hair-raising.

Because the "last generation", which is responsible for all these actions, has stuck to exactly two measures: a speed limit and a nine-euro ticket.

That would "save even more CO2 than a speed limit," says the website.

The activists are fooling the audience.

Because anyone who has dealt with climate protection has known for a long time: everything possible saves more CO2 emissions than a speed limit, practically every other measure is more worthwhile.

But the "last generation" doesn't seem to care that much.

Nuclear power plants save ten times as many emissions

Got it, it has to be quick.

The demands of the "last generation" are only the first step, because we have to take care of the climate immediately.

Climate collapse is by far the greatest danger facing humans now.

Even the dangers of nuclear power plants are smaller.

So let's talk about it: Because nuclear power plants have been shut down, rows and rows of old coal-fired power plants are going back on line.

If Germany were to make a little effort to bring the existing nuclear reactors back online and not switch off the others in spring - the savings would not just be five million tons of CO2 a year as with the speed limit, it would be around 50 million tons.

So tenfold.

Of course there are fuel rods, but you can put them in the repository, which has to be built anyway.

Build railway and power lines faster

Nuclear power isn't to everyone's taste, and jumping over one's own shadow is difficult – for free.

How about, for example, an initiative to halve meat consumption?

That would be 20 million tons of CO2 a year, four times the speed limit.

There is so much to do that will do more than these two thin demands.

For the energy transition, Germany urgently needs power lines, which have been behind schedule for years.

But they are blocked by the residents.

Activists should demonstrate against this!

You could also argue that you can build faster in Germany.

Newly planned railway lines take around 25 years to go into operation.

In the meantime, they're slowed down by planning delays, appeals, and lawsuits.

This means that every railway line planned today will probably only be finished when Germany is supposed to be climate-neutral.

This is not a tenable situation and worth every legitimate protest.

Who fights for green hydrogen from sunny and windy countries, which we need to store energy and transport energy?

Who is committed to climate-friendly innovations that simplify life so that China or Russia, Indonesia or Iran will voluntarily protect the climate in the future?

This much is certain: it's not the people who throw mashed potatoes at paintings.

The "Last Generation" pretends to fight for the climate.

But a real fight for the climate would look different.

In fact, it is about an ideology of renunciation and a more boring life.

The activists glue themselves to the streets so that Germany - literally - does not move forward.

They demand state money for the railways and at the same time slow down those who generate the money in the first place: these people should waste more time on the freeway.

At least one thing the “last generation” is right about: their name.

Because with a speed limit and a nine-euro ticket, humanity will not prevent global warming.
