Taxes The tax on the rich threatens to unleash a "guerrilla war" between the Government and the communities
The Government has decided to introduce through its parliamentary groups -PSOE and United We Can- the
tax on large fortunes
in the bill that contemplates the extraordinary levies for banking and energy companies and that will be approved next Thursday.
In a last minute movement, socialists and purples intend to register an amendment to said bill whose content implies the creation of this new tax that would be in force in the years 2023 and 2024. With this maneuver, the Government ensures the ultra-fast approval of this tax that will tax net wealth of more than three million euros.
The tax, as explained by the Minister of Finance
María Jesús Montero
, should have three sections affecting wealth between three and five million euros, on which a rate of 1.7% would be applied;
between five and ten million the rate would rise to 2.1% and above ten million, it would rise to 3.5%. The Government's forecast is to collect up to 1,500 million euros with the new tax.
The inclusion of the new amendment has immediately provoked the protest of the first opposition party.
The PP considers it "unheard of" and an "outrage" that, by this method, it is intended to create
a new tax by introducing it through the back door
in a bill that, in accordance with the philosophy of the Executive, is not of a fiscal nature anymore. that the extraordinary levies on banking and energy are presented as solidarity contributions and not as taxes.
To this they add
the impossibility for the parliamentary forces to debate or amend the aforementioned proposal
and, of course, that it cannot be informed by experts either.
The bill that would thus include extraordinary levies on banks, energy companies and now also on large fortunes will be approved next Thursday with the votes of the two forces that support the Government and its parliamentary allies.
