The Director-General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, said, "The air transport sector in the UAE is witnessing strong performance indicators in terms of both the numbers of passengers and flights operated by air carriers, as well as new destinations, or those to which operation has been resumed due to the pandemic. (Covid-19)”, referring to the strong financial performance of national carriers.

Al-Suwaidi expected to "Emirates Today" that the demand for travel will increase with the holiday season at the end of this year and the last quarter of it, pointing out that national carriers are currently operating their flights to more than 200 destinations around the world in the six continents of the world.

He said, "The UAE national carriers currently operate a fleet of 499 aircraft, at a time when the air transport sector in the country is witnessing large and continuous growth rates, in the context of recovering from the conditions imposed by the (Covid-19) pandemic."

According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the number of passengers traveling through the country's airports, during the first months of this year, increased by nearly 100%, compared to the numbers recorded during the same period last year.

The authority expects that the number of passengers through the country's airports will rise by the end of this year to more than 90 million passengers, and that next year will witness a performance close to the levels of 2019, that is, before the pandemic in terms of the number of passengers on an annual basis.

According to the latest data issued by Dubai Airports, Dubai International Airport achieved a strong performance during the second quarter of 2022, which contributed to an increase in the number of passengers through the airport during the first six months to about 27.9 million passengers, exceeding the number of passengers during the past year by about 1.2 million. passengers, when the total amounted to 26.7 million passengers.

Abu Dhabi Airports Company, which is responsible for managing and operating the five airports in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, announced the results of passenger traffic for the first half of this year, which revealed a significant increase in passenger traffic, reaching about 6.3 million passengers through the airports: “Abu Dhabi International”, “Al Ain” International, “Al Bateen Private Aviation”, in addition to “Dalma” and “Sir Bani Yas Island” airports.

Sharjah Airport

Sharjah Airport has achieved positive growth rates this year, recording an increase in the number of passengers by 142.74% (approximately six million passengers), compared to 2.449 million passengers in the first half of 2021. The airport also witnessed a growth in aircraft movement to record 41,189 flights , compared to 21,709 flights in the first half of 2021, an increase of 89.73%.
