Food Food alert: Lidl asks its customers not to consume one of its nuts due to the presence of metal particles
The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) recommended this Wednesday to consumers of nuts of the
Alesto, Consum, Carrefour, Dia, Eagle, Eroski brands
, coming from Spain and that have been marketed in
containers that included "foreign" metallic bodies
to be "attentive" to possible adverse symptoms, among which he cited
abdominal pain, fever or vomiting.
This was advised by the organization in a statement issued after
the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition
(Aesan) alerted
this
Tuesday that it has been informed by the autonomous community of Catalonia, through the Coordinated System for the Rapid Exchange of Information (Sciri ), of the presence of metallic "foreign" bodies in the packaging of
39 batches of almonds, peanuts and cocktails of these brands.
The agency, dependent on the Ministry of Consumption, explained that the products involved are
four batches of Alesto honey fried almonds
in its 150-gram presentation and with preferred consumption dates between February 19 and June 20, 2023;
five batches of fried peanuts with honey, from Consum
, in a 150-gram bag and with preferential consumption between January 27 and June 20, 2023;
and
five batches of Carrefour peanuts with honey
, 125 grams and preferred consumption between February 19 and June 20, 2023.
Also,
four batches of 200-gram DIA brand fried peanuts with honey,
with the same best-before date;
two batches of 75-gram Eagle brand honey and salt cocktail
, with preferential consumption between January 6 and April 9, 2023;
five batches of peanuts with honey and salt of 40 grams of the same brand
, with preferential consumption between February 15 and June 20, 2023;
two batches of the same product in its 90-gram presentation
with preferential consumption between February 27 and April 6, 2023;
eight batches of the same product in a 75-gram bag
and preferred consumption between January 6 and June 1, 2023 and
four batches of fried peanuts with honey in a 100-gram Eroski bag
with preferential consumption between March 17 and May 25, 2023.
According to this agency, the affected products
were distributed "widely" in Spain
and in other countries, which is why it has already transferred this information to the competent authorities of the autonomous communities and to the services of the European Commission through the Food Alert Network. Union (Rasff), with the aim of
"verifying" the withdrawal of said products from marketing channels.
After recalling that the presence of metallic "foreign" bodies "can pose health risks to people who consume them," the agency recommended that those who have the products included in this alert at home "refrain" from consuming them and return to point of purchase.
In this sense, the OCU recommended that potential consumers "be vigilant" for adverse symptoms such as abdominal, chest or throat pain, as well as fever and vomiting.
In the case of young children, he also urged to "take into account" signs of irritability, "especially" during the first 24 hours after ingestion, in which case he deemed it necessary
to contact 112.
