Russia continued to lose importance as a trading partner for Germany as a result of the Ukraine war.

In August, German exports there, with a volume of 1.2 billion euros, were 45.8 percent below the level of the same month last year, as calculated by the Federal Statistical Office.

Imports from Russia, which is an important supplier of raw materials, decreased in volume by 59.4 percent compared to August 2021, according to the Wiesbaden authority on Thursday. In terms of value, imports from Russia to Germany fell by 6.2 percent to 2, 7 billion euros back.

This decline would have been even clearer without the increased prices - especially in the energy sector - as the statisticians explained.

The most important destination country for goods "Made in Germany" is the USA.

According to calculations by the Federal Office, German exports there increased by 42 percent to 13.3 billion euros in August within a year.

All in all, Germany exported goods with a nominal value of 128.7 billion euros in August, 23.1 percent more than in the same month last year.
