Taxi fares in Tokyo's 23 wards have been raised for the first time in 15 years.

Starting in mid-November, the upper limit of the starting fare will be raised from the current 420 yen to 500 yen due to improvements in the working environment for crew members and soaring fuel costs.

On the 11th, the Kanto Transport Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced an increase in taxi fares in the 23 wards of Tokyo, Musashino City, and Mitaka City.

According to this, the upper limit of the initial fare for ordinary cars will be raised by 80 yen from the current 420 yen to 500 yen, and the additional amount will be revised from the current 80 yen for every 233 meters to 100 yen for every 255 meters.

In the taxi industry in Tokyo, there are issues such as a decrease in the number of passengers due to the impact of the new coronavirus, deterioration in business conditions due to soaring fuel costs, and the fact that the wages of drivers have not increased. It is said that revision is necessary to improve the working environment of the crew.

On the other hand, as the price increase is not small, we will instruct taxi operators to provide consumers with careful information and explanations.

The increase in taxi fares in this area is the first in 15 years since 2007, excluding the time of the consumption tax hike, and will be applied from November 14th.
